The global situation is becoming increasingly volatile. Our government has recently committed to $4.2 billion of additional Defense spending. We are relying on shady public private partnerships to fund infrastructure projects including much needed funding for our crumbling healthcare system. This will result in profits for the private corporations involved going offshore rather than being reinvested into our communities.
At the same time healthcare workers are under increasing pressure as their wages stagnate. Funding for beneficiaries and disabled people has been cut. People with chronic health conditions are simultaneously being made to feel like a burden and profited from. People deemed economically unproductive or surplus are not only neglected by the state but are also exploited for profit. This can mean warehousing these populations in institutions like rest homes, mental health institutions, prisons ( or in the US people are increasingly being locked up in ICE detention centres) where they are abandoned politically but still generate profit through various means.
Resistance is building between people in Aotearoa and worldwide who understand the need fight back against a system that benefits the billionaire class but is ultimately harmful to us all.
