Trump has taken the USA to an all new low by targeting the most vulnerable and marginalized workers in the country, the undocumented migrant workers. He is daring to use the American military against its own people. But the people are rising up in righteous fury, daring to show spontaneous solidarity in saying NO to the cruelty and racism of ICE, and the broader use of militaristic force to expand fascism on a worldwide scale.
This is a calculated drive by Trump and his regime to push us all into accepting authoritarianism, racism, and oligarchy as just the reality in which the working people, the marginalised, and the dissenters have no voice.
American activist Diana says, “Aotearoa New Zealand has no time for apathy and complacency; our voice, YOUR voice, has its power in unity. Before you watch the Trump-approved starvation marches begin in Gaza in real time on TikTok for the profit and amusement of billionaires, stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in California putting their bodies on the line between their multicultural communities and the police state, and say NO to allowing the elected officials of Aotearoa New Zealand to be collaborators to the American fascist regime. We don’t need no jackboots here, show them how hard your Wellies can stomp”.
The unions have also been leading the fightback in California. David Huerta, president of the Californian SEIU union was arrested in the crackdowns. “Migrant workers are not the enemy of American workers when in fact it’s the billionaires”, says Joe Carolan of Unite union who will be speaking at the rally.
As the people we all have a duty to raise our voices and stand in solidarity with our migrant workers and protesters being punished by Trump and his administration. “Now more than ever before is the need for migrant workers of the world to unite”, urges Anu Kaloti, president of the Migrant Workers Association of Aotearoa.
