We re-launch the Socialist Aotearoa website in the midst of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, a global anti-war radicalisation, and a crisis of legitimacy for Israeli apartheid and US Imperialism.

This historical rupture, marked by an unprecedented revival of Palestine solidarity activism across the world, is one that calls for a sharp political intervention from the socialist left. The violent stakes of imperialism, and the place of New Zealand within this system, have been illustrated more starkly than ever before. This moment has also opened up new debates over movement strategy, including the need to link the Palestine solidarity movement with the power of the working class. These are both discussions that revolutionary socialists are well placed to contribute to.

In throwing ourselves into the Palestine solidarity movement, including the weekly protests for Gaza of up to 10,000 in Auckland, we have been engaging closely with the history and politics of Palestinian liberation over the last seven weeks. The first series of articles on this website will reflect this orientation towards the Palestine solidarity movement.

We have no grandiose ambitions for this website at this point but we will try to, at a minimum, update it on a regular basis. We will primarily publish our organizational statements and editorials here, but we hope to also hope to eventually lay the foundations for a more coherent online publication of the revolutionary left.

The emphasis of this website will be on articles that seek to concretely elaborate a revolutionary socialist politics for the struggles of the present, although we will also carry shorter reports on strikes and demonstrations.

We hope this website will be a small contribution to political discussions in the movement and a forum for strategic debates on the broader left.
